Aaron LaCrate

My Swag:When did you first get into Djing ?
Started djing in 86 or 86 - prob 9 or 10 years old.

I heard you do a lot of thing besides Djing what are other the other things you do?
Im just a creative kid, always flipping something up. music, djing, design, clothing, records, photos, collabos, record label, i try to make things doper.

Breakdown the Baltimore club music for us?
The future of hip hop - full circle. the most rugged uptempo madness you can wild out too, heavier than crunk, hyphy, electro, etc.. the ultimate high - especially Gutter Music.

Lot of people say that Baltimore and you (Aaron LaCrate) are going to save club music any feelings on that?
I been around since the begining of that movement, actually before it started. i have the first records bought when they were pressed up, i know what past , present, and future. Ive signed Debonair Samir who is a beast and hes my production partner and ive also signed Verb - Baltimores most notorious MC who can destroy club, hip hop, opera, whatever. Hes a lyrical beast - from Down The Hill - East Baltimore. Were both from the same neighborhood born and bred. We all put in work and the take over has begun. The music really speaks for itself tho... Its really wild. Also DC's King Slixta - who is like Snoop Dog on angel dust and henessey. Were all out of our minds talented.

What artists are you feeling who have a buzz right now?
Verb, Samir, Me, Slixta, Ronson, Lily Allen, Dizzee Rascal, Damon Albarn, Daniel Merriweather, Dj Equalizer, Busy P, Mr VegasHow important is a Dj to a Artist career? It goes in waves, back in the day the Djs name went first - now were back in e.f.f.e.c.t. Real important right now..

What’s your view on the mixtape scene right now?
B-more Gutter Music was that dropped in 2005 was still the best and most influential mixtape in the past 3 years. It create a world wide demand for a 15 year old genre and opened up a whole new generation to Baltimore club music. History was already made in 05.

What are some of your personal favorite mixtapes and why?
Old shit, Red Alert, Double R, SS, Funkmaster Flex, Frank Ski, Dj Boobie, Cool Aaron

Who haven’t you collaborated with yet that you still want to?
Supa Cat Don Dada.

Tell us about Milkcrate Records?
The Sound of Baltimore. We releasing the highest quality B-more music - we not dumbing down like alot of other people, were actually making it more raw. Its not ironic, were all top notch at what we do. Were elevating and giving back to the city.

When did you first hook up with verb?
2006 we did Mtv You Heard it First and he and Slixta came to NYC to open for Papoose, Ghostfacem MF Doom - was a Big night. Since they weve done shows in Miami w/ A-trak, Mark Ronson, Baby Cham. London with Ronson and me, NYC with Dizzee rascal and Fabolous, and LA @ cinespace. Not bad.
